Condensation Surveys NI

Tool / Self-check

Condensation survey checker

Answer a few quick questions about the signs you have noticed. This gives an initial read of what kind of moisture problem it could be: not a diagnosis. Only a survey confirms what is going on.

What to expect / Quick checkers

Could it be damp?

Where is the problem?
Is there a tide-mark pattern low down, or a musty smell in the room?
Is there visible black mould, especially in corners or on cold walls?
Do windows steam up badly, or is condensation common?
Is the problem recent, or has it been there for years?

Indicative only. What is actually happening is confirmed on site. Request an assessment for the definitive answer.

What each level indicates

Signs point toWhat it means
Low likelihoodThe signs you described are mild and often just condensation. Improving ventilation and heating usually resolves them.
PossibleThe combination of signs is worth a proper look. A damp survey will identify what is actually happening.
Worth investigatingThe signs point to a genuine moisture problem. Book a survey soon: early findings keep any remedy smaller and cheaper.

Quick answers / Look-alikes

  • Condensation: Daily steaming windows and mould on cold walls usually mean condensation, which is managed with ventilation and heating: not structural damp.
  • A leak: A single wet patch that grows after rain, or a damp ceiling, is usually a plumbing or roof leak rather than rising moisture.
